Mindfulness is simply moment to moment awareness paying attention, being non-judgemental: "non-doing". It is non-deliberate, non-evaluative sustained awareness of physical and mental states. It is based on eastern spiritual of 2000+ years . Emphasises an open awareness to mental and physical processes.[Kabat-Zinn 1990]
Mindfulness has been used successfully in pain and stress clinics,Kabat Zinn 1990 , in America for over 20 years. It has also been well researched studies show that mindfulness can reduce anxiety and increase positive thinking.
Mindfulness has been shown to be particularly helpful for people with Anxiety, stress, obsessional thinking, depression, chronic pain, skin complaints and chaotic thinking.
As a Psycho sexual and relationship therapist I am interested in exploring how regular mindfulness practice combined with existing CBT strategies can have a direct affect on men with premature ejaculation and erection problems. Also making love mindfully may reduce sexual boredom and increase more intimate sex.
There are four types of mediation, walking, sitting, full body scan and Yoga exercises. A minimum of 15 Min's to 45Min's on a daily basis. This clearly takes discipline and the client needs support to achieve this.
Mindfulness is not a rescue technique people have to find their own straights and do this for themselves.
It can be stressful as the discipline can be hard work.It needs conscious effort to practice .
It is not a quick fix
It is recognizing that stress is normal and unavoidable
It can create inner peace and harmony. It can help a person cope with life changes
